Fifty million girls of school age in the developing world are not in school, mainly because their families can't afford their school uniforms, books, supplies and fees. In three of the countries where CBB funds projects--Afghanistan, India, and Nepal--the gender gaps in education are among the widest in the world.
When we in the U.S., with average incomes 100 times larger than these women and girls, join with them, they can obtain an education. We can form a partnership, giving to each other. By virtue of the abundance we have in this country we can contribute to the education of impoverished girls and illiterate women without noticeable sacrifice to ourselves.
And, these girls and women also give to us, enabling us to go beyond our material comforts to the satisfaction of knowing we are making a difference in their lives. In funding the education of these women and girls we transcend our personal concerns to care for other human beings. We experience the joy of doing that, while the girls and women being educated understand our generosity as an act of love--and that it is.
The girls and women do the work of studying--our donations are not a hand-out. They want to learn, but they can do so only in partnership with us, as donors. Compassion Beyond Borders is the matchmaker in this partnership.
You are invited to support the education of impoverished girls and illiterate women by making a donation to any project, or where most needed. Pledges of monthly or quarterly contributions are especially helpful in funding their on-going education.
